A new report by ILO, UNICEF, and ETF urgently calls on MENA countries to invest in education and training for youth, addressing the region's high youth unemployment. In 2019, 30% of young people in MENA were not employed or in school, rising to 42% for young women.
The report recommends market-relevant skills training, job creation, and policy reforms to support youth in transitioning to decent work. It stresses the importance of lifelong learning skills to adapt to fast-changing markets and emphasizes the need for enhanced Labor market information systems, education reforms, and private sector engagement. The report builds on commitments made in 2022, urging swift action to secure the future of youth in the region.
